Student teachers spend 5 weeks in a school overseas teaching in a culturally-different educational environment. During those five weeks these student-teachers experience first hand:
1. Teaching under different cultural guidelines
2. Interacting with students from a different culture
3. Designing lesson plans aligned with the local cultural values and practices
4. Identify classroom management techniques and strategies to motivate students from a different culture
5. Being immersed in a different culture
6. Facing interesting cultural experiences in their every day life
7. Eating different foods
During this time, student teachers connect once a week with a k-12 classroom in North Carolina using a real time web conferencing platform. During these interactions student-teachers share with students in the U.S.A. what it is like to live in a different culture. In addition to this topic, student-teachers choose examples from the country they are visiting that align with the content of the class in North Carolina. This creates a relevant conversation for students, teachers and student teachers starting conversations about similarities and differences across cultures.
